Oman's customer-friendly communications provider Nawras has signed a contract with Tawasul Electronic Network Solutions to permit the sale of Nawras products to all over the Sultanate. This new affiliation means that Nawras customers can conveniently purchase Nawras prepaid SIM-cards and recharge cards in additional new locations across the Sultanate, making Nawras services even more convenient than ever. Details were formalised during a signing ceremony held on Tuesday, August 11th, at which Nawras expressed its pleasure to assign Tawasul as a the premium distributor of Nawras products. The agreement gives Tawasul the distribution rights of distributing and launching their electronic recharge solution for Nawras's prepaid products and to distribute Nawras's SIM cards, modems and prepaid scratch cards.

On behalf of Tawasul, Chairman HH.Syied Hammed Bin Thuwainy AAL Said signed the Premium Distributor Agreement, accompanied by Mr. Nasser Noor, CEO of Tawasul; Eng.Feras AL Zuraiqi, CTO and Board Director and Sheikh Ali AL Harthi. CEO, Ross Cormack added his signature on behalf of Nawras while other senior managers from the company looked on, including Nawras Chief Operating Officer, Khalid Al-Mahmoud, Chief Commercial Officer, Tore Solberg; Mohamed Abdulatif, Nawras Sales Director; Abdul Aziz Al Hinai, Department Head of Indirect Sales.

Nawras CEO Ross Cormack said, "We warmly congratulate Tawasul Electronic Network Solutions on this well-deserved upgrade, becoming the first Regional Distributor for Nawras. This positive step will allow Nawras customers to get closer more easily in this extensive area of the country. Nawras has always encouraged local companies to participate and share in the success of the fastest growing family in Oman, making it even easier and more convenient than ever for our customers across the Sultanate to obtain Nawras products and services closer to their own doorsteps."
In response, Tawsul's Chairman H.H. Hamed bin Thuwainy Al Said stated, "We are very happy to have formed this partnership with the Nawras. We feel strongly that this will allow Tawasul to spread its innovative electronic recharge solution and customers in Oman will benefit greatly from this service all the way from Muscat to Salalah." Tawasul's CEO Mr. Nasser Mohamed Noor has also commented, " Our strategic partnership with the Nawras will enhance and add value to the limited recharge options available in Oman and customers will notice an immediate improvement on the quality and efficiency of our new electronic recharge solution. We have the Nawras's subscribers best interest at heart and will make our solution widely available in strategic locations for their convenience".

Tawasul will be a valuable part of the Nawras distribution network currently spanning the whole Sultanate, giving Nawras customers additional points-of-sale (POS) to buy Nawras SIM Cards and introducing the electronic purchases of prepaid mobile airtime via wireless POS. They currently support top-up purchases of all existing recharge vouchers of Nawras and will roll out to more than 600 POS terminals across various cities in the Sultanate.

Mobile operators and retailers are moving to electronic top-ups to save distribution costs and reduce fraud. Until the development of electronic recharge, in which Tawasul has played a key role, prepaid airtime was distributed primarily through scratch-based recharge cards, which were offered in retail outlets. This distribution method is very costly to mobile operators and retailers in terms of inventory, distribution, theft and fraud. By moving to real-time electronic transactions, mobile operators and retailers eliminate these costs and afford their consumers the added convenience of multiple purchase locations. Retailers, who previously would run out of one particular denomination, also appreciate electronic transactions because inventory is not an issue.

This system supports online electronic top-up and vouchers at retail locations via a single terminal or for mass retailers with multiple locations. The system has been designed to handle the processing for prepaid products extending well beyond mobile services.
